Patong in 4 days: the first-timer's plan
A balanced first visit: an easy arrival, one beach day done well, one island day with a weather buffer, a taste of Phuket's temples and old town, and Patong's nightlife on your own terms.
- 1
Day 1 — Arrive and settle in
Pre-arrange your ride from the airport (45–75 minutes) — the airport transfer guide lists every option. Check in, sort a SIM card and some cash, then walk the beach road at golden hour to get your bearings.
Have dinner a block back from the beach where Thai families eat, and keep the evening short: jet lag and a late night on Bangla Road are a poor combination on day one.
- 2
Day 2 — Beach morning, slow afternoon, Bangla by night
Swim early at the calmer north end of Patong Beach, between the red-and-yellow flags (beach safety). Spend the hottest hours with a long lunch and a Thai massage.
After dark, walk Bangla Road to see it for yourself — read the Bangla Road guide first for prices and the usual traps — or choose a sunset bar and live music instead.

Day 3 — Island day trip
Choose one island trip — Phi Phi, Phang Nga Bay or a calmer half-day to Coral Island — and check the forecast the evening before. The island day trips guide compares boat types, piers and park fees.
Pickups are usually early in the morning. Keep this day flexible: if the sea is rough, swap it with day four.

Day 4 — Viewpoints, temples and Old Phuket Town
Hire a driver for the day or use ride-hailing: Big Buddha in the morning (shoulders and knees covered), Wat Chalong, then lunch and a wander in Old Phuket Town. Finish at a viewpoint for sunset — see viewpoints and temples near Patong.
Last evening: a seafood dinner — read how seafood is priced by the kilo before you order.
